ABOUT US

We are Peregrine Racing, a team of Year 9 students from Haberdashers’ Boys’ School.

This is our debut season in STEM Racing, where we will be competing in the Development Class.

WHAT IS STEM RACING?

STEM Racing (formerly F1 in Schools) is an exciting, hands-on competition for students aged 9-19, where teams design, build and promote a miniature Formula 1-style car to race and showcase at competitive events.

The competition offers students a hands-on opportunity to develop skills in engineering, aerodynamics, and teamwork, while also gaining experience in marketing, graphic design, and project management. It’s an exciting way to apply science and technology to a real-world motorsport challenge.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

There are four competition classes, each with its own set of rules and regulations. This season, our team will compete in the Development Class, designed for students aged 11-19.

Click here to find the Development Class Guidebook, which outlines all the rules and requirements for our category this year.

The track measures 20 metres in length, and cars are powered by CO₂ canisters mounted at the rear, reaching speeds of around 20 m/s.

Each car is typically just under 20 cm long and built from a polyurethane body with some 3D-printed components. The polyurethane chassis is cut from a standardised model block, identical for all teams in the STEM Racing competition.

At the competition, teams also set up their Pit Display to showcase their car and design journey, alongside a portfolio detailing their brand identity, testing, and other key aspects of their project.
